SPECIAL FILMWAX SCREENING & LIVE PERFORMANCE: Reno - Rebel Without a Pause

SPECIAL FILMWAX SCREENING & LIVE PERFORMANCE: Reno - Rebel Without a Pause

On October 3, 2001, Reno debuted her show Reno: Rebel Without a Pause at Nicky Paraiso's The Club at La MaMa in downtown Manhattan. Following the show's first act, about her witnessing the morning of September 11th, 2001 from her home a few blocks north of the World Trade Center, Reno ends Act II describing George W. Bush's most ridiculous faux-pas then building to a plaintive skyward cry: "Can we get a Smart Guy?, Can we get a Smart Guy?"

When Nancy Savoca filmed the show in early December, 2001, we were still very raw down there. Audience members spoke of arguing with their spouses about whether they thought they should go to a show about the events of September 11th by Reno, a comedian of sorts. They spoke of Rebel Without a Pause as a town hall, a service, both in the communitarian and religious manner. There were firefighters in the audience. People who lost people that day.

Now it's ten years late, and the answer to Reno's "Can we get a Smart Guy???", has come.
